adb connect fails after pairing over Wi-Fi

There is no error message for this one, only the symptom in the title.

Cause

The pairing screen shows one IP:port for adb pair; adb connect needs the different port shown under IP address & Port on the main Wireless debugging screen.

Fix

adb pair <ip>:<pairing-port>   # enter the 6-digit code
adb connect <ip>:<debug-port> # the other port
adb devices -l
scrcpy --record=demo.mp4 --no-audio   # mirror + record, no 3-minute cap
