# Preppers privacy policy

> Preppers collects no personal data. No accounts, no analytics in the app, no ads. Your library, bookmarks and notes stay on your device.

Web page: https://davidewins.com/preppers/privacy

Effective 21 October 2026

This policy covers the Preppers app for iOS and Android and the Preppers page on davidewins.com/preppers. Preppers is made by David Ewins, a sole trader in Ireland.

## The short version

Preppers collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and the app has no analytics. Your library, bookmarks, highlights and notes stay on your device.

## No accounts

You don't sign up or log in. There is no user account and no profile.

## What stays on your device

These are stored only on your device:

- your answers to the setup questions
- the packs you picked and how far each download has got
- the packs you downloaded
- your bookmarks, highlights and notes

None of this is sent to me or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes it. Your bookmarks, highlights and notes leave your device only when you tap Export, as a file you choose where to save or send.

## What is collected, stored on servers or shared

Nothing about you. I don't collect personal data, I don't store it on any server, and I don't share or sell it. The app has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking SDKs.

## Network requests from the app

The app makes these requests. None of them include your answers, your packs or your notes. Like any web server, each one receives your device's IP address.

- **The pack catalogue.** The app downloads the list of packs from davidewins.com/preppers/catalogue.json.
- **Pack files.** Packs download from Kiwix's servers, mirror.download.kiwix.org or the mirror named in the catalogue. They see which file you download. See [Kiwix](https://kiwix.org).
- **App updates.** When it starts, the app asks Expo's update service (u.expo.dev) whether there is a fix to download. The request carries the app version, your platform and a random ID made by the update library on install. It carries nothing about you. See [Expo's privacy policy](https://expo.dev/privacy).
- **Outside links.** A link in an article that points to a website opens in your browser, and that site's own policy applies.

Once your packs are on your device, reading, search, the emergency cards and maps work with no connection.

## Location

The app asks for your location only when you tap the locate button on an offline map. It is used on your device to show where you are on the map. It is never stored or sent anywhere. You can turn it off at any time in your phone's settings.

## The Preppers page on this website

The page on davidewins.com/preppers works the same way. Your choices, bookmarks, highlights and notes are saved in your browser's storage, and packs download in your browser straight from Kiwix (mirror.download.kiwix.org for the file and lb.download.kiwix.org for its checksums). My server never sees the files or your notes. You can clear all of it by clearing this site's data in your browser.

## The setup guide on this website

The page can offer a chat that helps you pick packs. It is optional, and the app doesn't have it. If you use it, the messages you type and the free space your browser reports are sent to my server, which passes them to Anthropic's Claude API to suggest packs. I don't store the conversation. My server keeps your IP address in memory for up to 10 minutes to limit how many messages one browser can send. Anthropic processes the messages under its own terms; see [Anthropic's privacy policy](https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy). Don't type anything private into it.

## Website analytics

This website uses [Vercel Web Analytics](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy) to count page views. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you or follow you across sites. The website has no ads. As with any website, the server that hosts it receives your IP address when your browser loads a page.

## Children

I don't knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 16. The app collects no personal data from anyone.

## Your rights

Because I hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for me to access, correct or delete. If you have a question or think something here is wrong, email me.

## Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
